How she got started-It was actually a fluke, I was a sociology and psychology major at Washington University and then I became a fashion assistant at a teen magazine called YM. I was there for three years and I left as senior fashion editor to go freelance. I was 25 years old. I wanted more, to be challenged. I was completely obsessed with my job and everything that relates to fashion.I have spent the rest of my career trying to work out all the different channels that I can do my job. Writing a book, doing a TV show, consulting and styling, doing the ad campaigns and fashion shows. It’s exhausting but I’m not one of those people who is going to stop and think ‘look what I’ve done’. I’m always thinking, 'what’s the next?'. I get restless.

Rachel Zoe is amazing. Ask her how she got such big name celebs as clients n her relationships with designers.-Sometimes it’s a fluke and you meet on a shoot, or you have mutual friends. I think it’s something that works organically. There isn’t a certain ‘way’. Are you a match? Do you get each other? That sort of thing. I didn’t set out saying that I wanted to be a celebrity stylist, it just happened, I’m very fortunate that the women I work with inspire me to do what I do.I couldn’t really say who my favourites are. I love them all for completely different reasons and they’re all such totally different women and so they’re all just amazing. Some are more fashion forward, some don’t really care about fashion. Some, we work very closely with and we do personal styling for everyday life, for some it’s just for special events, it’s just very different.

What are her Fall Must Haves? (I asked her about Spring/Summer as well as Autumn/Winter)- In general, going into spring summer for me is about really great wide leg jeans, white or a very pale blue. I like great little trouser jeans with a light-weight jacket. In the summer I also tend to wear a kaftan and peasant dresses. For everybody else I think this summer is about great little minidresses, denim shorts, lots of platforms, wood-stacked heels and wedges.I am always onto the next thing, but that’s because we see the collections so early. For Autumn/Winter I'd like anything and everything Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton! I think if you can, add a pop of colour with brights and neons. It's also all about leggings. Every type of legging, even leg warmers, if you can pull it off. Chunky-knit sweaters are also key, I love layers right now and boots that come over the knee, thigh-high boots were on almost every runway show.

Who are your fashion influences - the ones who influence your personal style?-There are so many, it depends what mood I’m in. I would say it’s primarily the icons of the Sixties and the Seventies; Penelope Tree, Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy and Peggy Moffett, the Sixties icons. Then you get into the whole Bianca Jagger, Diane von Furstenberg, Veruschka, Marianne Faithful, all these amazing women from the Seventies. And I love Brigit Bardot of course.Then there is of course those rare moments when it’s Catherine Deneuve and I’m feeling like doing Parisian chic, with a red lip and hair up and a black suit. It happens once in a while. For the most part I’m into that Sixties and Seventies thing, I can’t seem to get out of it. It’s what I’m most comfortable in. I think I will always wear that style. Right now, the Eighties are a huge trend but it doesn’t really work so well on me, so I kind of just stay in what I’m most comfortable in.

Jeans make her look older:
I only wear jeans and flat shoes when I am on holiday, never for work. Jeans suit me very well but it’s not for me anymore. It’s horrible to say but it has something to do with age. I have good legs, so I prefer my skirt lengths and my high heels. It’s like my uniform. I never wear jeans. Jeans are for my assistants… I wore knee-length jeans skirts. I never wear miniskirts because they make me look older.

She thinks people in Russia, China and Eastern Europe don’t have a culture of clothes:
If people ask me to describe my look I always say: quite classic with an edge. Look at my dress. It doesn’t look like I have on anything special, it’s more the way you mix the clothes and how you move, how you open your bag, how you cross your legs – just little things that make a difference. With French women you first see the woman and then you see the clothes. Imagine other countries like Russia or China, even Eastern Europe. They don’t have the culture of clothes so they want to show that they can afford to buy a Dolce & Gabbana bag, they want to show labels. In France you cannot see what labels we are wearing. It is very snobby.

She loves the Yves Saint Laurent woman:
You know the idea of the Saint Laurent woman. What a dream she was: wearing trousers, hand in the pocket, no handbag, transparent shirt. I love that woman. It is exactly who I would have loved to be if I could choose. So I would have to go blonde because he loved the blondes, and I would have to have bigger breasts. But it’s the idea of the woman I love, and I try to repeat this in my magazine.

and Cartier too:
Do you know why? Because Cartier is the jewelry you give to your mistress. It is not the jewelry you buy for your wife. I heard that and it might be totally wrong, but it is this idea and I love Cartier because of that.

She has the power of making a model a supermodel:
It’s great to have the power. I understood some years ago that we have a lot of power. I never thought I would get power before. The power to make everyone you want successful. You have the power to make a photographer a big photographer. You have the power to make a designer a top designer. You have the power to make a model a supermodel. It is great this power, so you have to use this power in a good way.

But feels unrecognized:
It’s funny, because I never get awards for fashion. I’ve got an award for being the best-dressed person. I got an award for amfAR. I was on the Time magazine list of the most influential people last year. But I never got an award for my fashion pictures.

She talks about her old Gucci days:
Now we have to put the foot on the pedal [with sexually charged images]. We can’t go as strong as [Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin] did back then. When I started doing all the Gucci campaigns with Tom Ford and Mario Testino we pushed so much and after that everyone copied it. Everyone tried to be this Gucci girl that we created. So I am sure we were part of this tendency. It was good at the time because we were the first ones to do these kinds of images to sell a product, and after that everyone kept on doing it. I think now it’s too much. It’s no fun. It’s not chic. We always had a chic eye on everything, even when we shaved the G on the girl. A lot of girls started shaving their p*ssy in different ways after that so it really became a trend. Many artists played with the pictures too, so it was fun.

An environmental film will be launch on June 5, to raise awareness surrounding social issues and climate changes affecting the planet. On Monday Night May 4 the Metropolitan Museum will hold its Costume Institute Ball, and it always brings out the most amazing looks. Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs' hosted theme is "The Model As Muse." Not attending this year is: Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Drew Barrymore. Anne Hathaway will be a guest of Marc Jacobs, Eva Mendes and Brooke Shields of Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa, Jessica Biel will attend with Justin Timberlake-who is also a host, Kate Beckinsale, Molly Sims, Tyra Banks, Liv Tyler, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba-who will be with and wearing Jason Wu, and many others I'm sure.

Cant wait to see what everyone wears!! Any predictions on who will be best dressed????

Look's like Jacob's fiance Lorenzo Martone spilled some wedding details at the Parsons Fashion Benefit last night. They are expecting to wed in Provincetown, Massachusetts, one of their favorite vacation spots where Jacobs opened a store at 184 Commercial Street in 2007. "Yes, [the wedding will happen] in the summer--in June, even before summer!" Martone said. "And then [we'll have] a party in December in St. Barths."
